The untold story of 1 Peter 3:21

The baptismal remission advocates ( church of Christ, catholic,Lutheran, etc.) say that this verse is teaching that water baptism SAVES US. The Holy Spirit anticipated that some would interpret "baptism doth also now save us" as literal and thus the parenthesis (not the putting away of the FILTH of the flesh). The Greek word for "fillth" here is "rhupos" which means moral depravity. So according to the very verse that religion likes to use to teach baptismal remission (your sins are washed away in the act of water baptism), this is exactly NOT what is being taught here. This verse of scripture is plainly teaching that water baptism HAS NO EFFECT in the cleansing of the sinner's heart. No moral depravity was ever changed by one being baptized in water. Here is the PLAIN teaching of this verse; Water baptism does not wash away the filth (moral depravity) of the flesh. Those who teach otherwise are teaching a works-based salvation lie.
