The Gospel and baptism
I am always amazed at how religion adds works to the Gospel of Christ. Whether it's baptism, church membership, sacraments, penance,or any other "work", man has always tried to "help God out" with His salvation. In order for works to be part of salvation, they first have to be part of the Gospel. Let's look at baptism for example. Is baptism part of the Gospel as some claim? Let's see what the WORD OF GOD has to say about this matter. In the Bible , the only place you will ever find the words "Gospel" and "baptism" together is in 1Cor.1:17. In this verse of scripture, Paul SEPARATES baptism from the Gospel. The pathetic answer religion gives here is that Paul was to "not PRIMARILY baptize, but to preach the Gospel". I don't understand this answer, considering that to religion, baptism IS A PRIMARY part of the Gospel, since it is included in it . It's amazing how the Holy Spirit anticipated the attempt by man to add works to the Gospel of Christ and gave us such scriptures as this to expose religion for what it is; just another humanistic effort by man to get to Heaven by what he does, not by what Christ HAS ALREADY DONE. What part of the Gospel of Christ doesn't religion get! They have never understood that if it is about Christ, it CANNOT BE about what I do.When you read the BIBLICAL definiton of the Gospel given in 1Cor. 15:1-4,you WILL NOT FIND works, wafers,or water ANYWHERE. It is all about Christ or it's NOT THE GOSPEL. Anyone who adds anything to the Gospel than what the Bible adds is PREACHING ANOTHER GOSPEL that is a "placebo" (looks real but has no effectiveness) gospel. To the religious person who teaches that the Gospel of Christ includes works (baptism), I have this thought to leave with you.Isn't it troubling to your theology that the ONLY place in the Word of God that "baptism" and "Gospel" appear together in the same place is where the Holy Spirit through Paul SEPARATES these two issues. Think about this! I pray that you will come to realize that the Gospel is TOTALLY about what God's son, Jesus Christ has ALREADY done.Preach the right Gospel and sinners will be saved because " it is the power of God unto salvation"(Ro.1:16) to everyone that BELIEVETH.
