Once Saved, Always Saved
Someday a person will ask me the question " Do you believe in once saved, always saved?". My immediate answer will then be " It depends on who's doing the saving.". If it's my job to keep myself saved, then I absolutely DO NOT believe in once saved, always saved. Why? Because I couldn't keep myself saved even one day, let alone the rest of my life. You see, there is this little problem of sin that separates us from God. The losing Salvation apologist refuses to answer this question of the amount of sin that causes one to become lost and will reference a mythical " backsliding line " or a " changing master " speech that has nothing to do with the Biblical reason for becoming lost. The ONLY thing found in the Word of God that causes man to become lost is SIN! Adam became lost not when he " was backslidden ", not when he " changed masters ", but when he committed ONE SIN ( Ro.5:14-21 ). No one that I know who is a losing Salvation apologist will admit that because they sin every day they are lost every day. If man became lost the FIRST time by committing one sin ( disobeying one commandment ), then man becomes lost the SECOND time by committing one sin ( disobeying one commandment ). It's time for losing Salvation apologists to own their doctrine along with it's logical conclusion. On the other hand, if I am kept saved by Jesus and the power of God ( 2Tim.1:12, 1Pet.1:3-5, Jn.6:35-40 ), then I ABSOLUTELY believe in once saved, always saved. Jn.6:39 declares that it is GOD'S WILL that 1. Jesus ( I ), not me, would lose NONE of " all which He hath given me " ( the Church ) and 2. Jesus ( I ), not me, would raise him ( the Church ) up at the last day ( 1 Thess.4, 1 Cor.15). I believe that Jesus, as clearly demonstrated in the Bible, is the one that has the power to " keep " me saved, therefore I will TOTALLY depend on Him to do what He says He will do, and what I know that I cannot do. The choice is yours; keep yourself saved and inevitably become lost, or depend on ( faith ) Jesus to do what He says so clearly that He will do. Those that " keep themselves saved " are doing the same thing that the Church at Galatia were attempting to do; sustain the Salvation they had by doing good works ( Gal.5:3 ). Think about this; When we were saved the first time, we, like the thief and the publican, had NO GOOD WORKS to offer God in exchange for His Salvation. God gave us His Salvation based ENTIRELY upon our trust in His Son Jesus. Losing Salvation apologists insist that God will continue His favor toward us ( Salvation ) ONLY if we perform works of righteousness ( Tit. 3:5 ). These " offered works " that are meant to " keep us saved " are viewed by God as FILTHY RAGS ( Is.64:6 ). ALL of them fall into this category if offered in exchange for original or continuing Salvation from Him. Trust the Lord to save you AND keep you saved. He alone , and not yourself, has the power to do this.
